Learn about our approach

Our Approach

Sage Alliance supports our students within an integrated academic and therapeutic environment. Our uniquely integrated approach provides a mix of academic engagement, emotional support, and available medical consultation.

Education at our schools is a partnership that involves student and family. Psychiatrists, therapists, learning strategists and our certified educational staff, as well as the student’s school district and our community partnerships, surround the student in an ongoing, student-centered process.

Sage Alliance Integrated School Model

Integrated School Model

Through our team approach, we integrate clinically licensed therapists and certified teachers on staff with students, their peers, and their families and build solid, productive relationships with community-based medical and health care providers. It is our core belief that by working together, we help our students achieve the greatest level of academic success and optimal mental health. We focus on:

  • Working together to fully understand underlying issues and create an action-based plan.
  • Creating direct and clear communications that support better outcomes.
  • Providing necessary therapy on-site, with our trained licensed staff.
  • Supporting success through learning strategists, professionals who are dedicated to a small group of students.
  • Coordinating care among all members of the team so we’re all working with the student and family toward a common vision for the future.

One Team, Better Outcomes

Our integrative model is efficient because all the professionals — educational and therapeutic— work together as a team, rather than separately. Our communication protocols allow for higher awareness and sensitivity to our students’ needs, which permits us to be more proactive rather than reactive to student difficulties.

The Sage Alliance team meets weekly. Student progress is evaluated on a timely basis, academic difficulties are spotlighted more quickly, and social and emotional issues that contribute to classroom performance can be addressed swiftly. The close-working relationships among our professionals, and between our staff and students, enable our teachers and therapists to tailor lessons and therapy sessions to the rapidly changing conditions in an adolescent’s life.

Individualized Education Program (IEP)

An Individualized Educational Program (IEP) is the guiding document for a student’s educational program. At Sage Alliance, each student’s IEP is jointly developed and updated at least annually by a team consisting of the student, parents, Child Study Team case manager, teachers, therapists, and administrators.

The IEP begins with an overview summary of the student’s current education status: The Present Level of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP).

The IEP also includes goals and objectives for academic performance and social-emotional functioning, as well as a plan for transition planning to post-secondary life. The IEP lists specific accommodations, modifications and/or exemptions that a student needs in order to perform successfully.
